Many Things About Tomorrow by Winnie Garza
In Many Things About Tomorrow, I share the story of what knowing Jesus and listening to the Holy Spirit has meant in my life. It tells how Jesus took me from deep shame and brought me to a place of restoration and grace.
Born into a dysfunctional family, I was abused emotionally, physically, and sexually. I share how the Holy Spirit used many methods to guide me, with sweet lessons in compassion and an old black-and-white movie, to powerful words spoken into my spirit, such as "Protect your heart," "You will be okay," and the most powerful one, "Forgive."
Today, like everyday, I am thanking God for my testimony. My story is about how our Heavenly Father brought me out of a life of shame; from a throwaway girl, and filled me with his love, joy, and grace.
Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
The following is from my book,
Many Things About Tomorrow by Winnie Garza
I was eight years old the first time I remember being
Sexually molested. I say remember because on the day I do
remember, I knew what was going to happen. I already knew
that my dad carried a darkness, and I lived in fear of him.
His tales of how our pets’ brains looked after he blew their
heads off, and how we saw the beatings our siblings got for any
infraction, kept me awake at night fearing that the next bullet
fired might be one of ours. So spending any time with him was
nothing but horror.
I left his bedroom violated and traumatized. My thoughts
then and over the next several days were “I will never be the
same. I will never be the same. I will never be the same.” I felt
like I was not me anymore. The trauma changed who I thought I was, and at eight years old I had no way to even process this.
My dad told me never to write this in a diary, or tell
anybody, because if anybody ever knew, they would think I
was dirty and disgusting, and no one would like me.
If anybody knew? I knew… I knew…

I want to share some comments and reviews I have received from a few of the people that have read my book. I am grateful for every one of them.

9) Winnie, I finished your book last night. You did an excellent job writing about a very hard time. It’s so clear that none of that awfulness defines you. Because of God. What a gift you are to all of us. Thank you for being transparent. You are a warrior my friend. I sure admire and love you!!
10) Short but powerful read. The author shares how her faith helped to transform a traumatic upbringing into a life full of meaning and wisdom. Just finished it yesterday - very proud of you Winnie - you made yourself vulnerable and shared intimately how you personally worked your way through tough stuff. It seems important and special for you and your close loved ones - but also many others this may speak to. Good on you
11) I really enjoyed our time this morning. I'm about halfway through your book and WOW is it powerful... I can't stop reading it.

Janine Rathbun WheatWinnie, I had no idea! God has surely brought beauty from your ashes. Thank you for being so brave as to share. You have no idea the far reaching affects for good this may have.

Lynnette Haima BollerThis will be hard to read since you are a childhood friend. Sadly, I had no idea. So grateful for Gods redeeming love, power and grace.
Shirley BagalayYou are the bravest person I’ve ever known, and have an AMAZING testimony to share. Thank you for being willing to let God use your story to show others the victory God offers us if we are willing to give it all to Him.
Patricia MazzelloOh Winnie. What you have wrought out of a heartbreaking traumatizing childhood. You are so brave and I keep thinking how miraculous that you also had such a great sense of humor throughout these years.

I am blessed to know a part of you and wish I could know you more. I don’t know if you remember that I worked in mental health and so treated youngsters who have been in the same way. This is an unbelievable scourge of our use and of course, all around the world. I just want you to know that I’d always been a huge advocate of children/teens that this is happened to. My heart aches for what you went through. God bless you.
Tiffany WilgenhofYour light is so bright I could never have fathomed the darkness you have been through. Keep shining and illuminating, you’re a true testament of his goodness
